‘Non-objective Expressionism’ best describes my latest paintings. I have learned to emote through pure form on the picture plane. There is no third party to interpret or exaggerate as I have done many times. Rather, these paintings record the interactions between the canvas and me; these paintings interpret me. With my perceptual capacities waning, I’m bolstered by the fact that my first and lasting hero, Monet, painted his greatest series mostly from memory. Despite the pejorative label from Cezanne, “he’s only an eye,” Monet proved he was more than that in the end.
